Physical Description
Kalani is a dark tabby with lovely deep, dark brown markings. Her fur is exceptionally soft and her nickname “Bug” originated from her beautiful big bug eyes. She’s quite small in stature, weighing in at 3.2kg currently (though she may still grow).
Known History & Temperament
Hi, my name’s Kalani and I’m a young girl, maybe around 10months old.
I’ve had a bit of an adventurous life, I was found in Baldivis and spent a while in the pound. I was quite shy and scared there and would get a bit protective. After a few weeks I moved to my foster home and my journey continued! At first I was a bit scared, I growled and didn’t want people coming near me (oh, so embarrassing 🙈). But my foster people were patient with me, played me relaxation music, sat with me quietly, gave me nice food and just let me get things out of my system in my own time. They used something called Feliway, and that helped. After a few days I was coming out for headbutts and rubs. I found my purr motor again.
I went into heat and the nice vets did something they called a spay. I felt so very much better after that. It took me about a week, then I just felt like a normal young kitty again. I began playing with all the toys I have, following my foster person around and chilling out with them. I love jumping up while they’re on the computer to be petted and worshipped (then stealing their chair when the stand up). I love bedtime, I get a special “evening snack” before bed every day- just watch me run for it. Once everyone is asleep, I’ll curl up at their feet, or I’ll do zoomies in the hallway or under the bed. Then come morning I get the happies! Walking and purring all over the bed, waiting for breakfast and pats. Sometimes if I haven’t finished all my wet food, I’ll plonk my toys on top of it to save it from the other cats.
I’m comfy on my own, sinking into my big fluffy bed, on the human’s bed, or following around my foster human for pats and purrs, or just to chill with them. I’ve been told I’m very soft and very pretty (of course I must agree).
I’m a sweet girl who would appreciate a home with people who will be patient with me while I settle, then be ready to be best buds after that. I’m not really interested in the other cats at my foster home, but I’m not upset by them either, we all do our own thing and it worked out really well for everyone. I’m very independent, however I think perhaps living with one or two cats other would be fine with me. My foster people don’t know if I’ve met dogs before, so I’m not sure how I’d go with them.
Cattitude Level
- Chill with a hint of crazy!
- Loves snuggle time, but also ‘alone’ time
- Shy, gentle, tentative
- Crazy and entertaining – a laugh a minute!
Interests and Hobbies
I love my nighttime zoomies, my toys are always moved when my foster carer gets up. I love chasing my ribbon around corners, as it disappears from sight, I can do a great sneak attack. I still haven’t caught the red dot- but one day I’ll get it!
Dislikes
I don’t like being picked up, but I love pets and attention on my terms. I like when people visit me and give me love and pats, but sometimes I need to let the people know to stop, usually by licking their hand. I do try to be polite about it. If the don’t take the hint, sometimes I’ll do a soft cronch, but I never mean to hurt anyone.
Purrfect Home
I think I’d love just about anywhere that has a warm bed, good food and great company. I’m not particularly bothered with other cats, maybe a younger cat might be my style? But as long as my new forever humans know how to help me settle in at my pace, with lots of patient care and attention. I don’t think I’d like kids though.
Health Notes
Kalani is a healthy young girl looking forward to a brand new life as an indoor cat.
